The second post in Our Support System series goes to Lee Rittel of A Cause for Claws. He is the man behind the famous “Neuter Scooter.”

Lee stands in the office of A Cause for Claws thrift store, Bismarck’s only thrift store that is directed at caring for animals.
Lee opened A Cause for Claws after he found seven kittens in a shed on a cold February night in North Dakota. He saw how easily it was for cats to repopulate. He knew this was an issue that needed to be addressed. Opening A Cause for Claws was his first step in the right direction. The thrift store is the only one in the Bismarck-Mandan area to benefit the needs of animal welfare and sterilization. He later purchased the Spay Mobile, which is a traveling facility with an operating room and kennels, fondly called the “Neuter Scooter” among the volunteers of Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue.
With his generosity, we’ve been able to make headway in several different situations. The first effort began when we were called to help a family deal with the over abundance of felines. Check out the news story: KX and our efforts: First Sterilization Project.

The Neuter Scooter sits at the first sterilization effort FFRR conducted in the fall of 2016.

Inside of the Neuter Scooter is simple but it could not be more beneficial to the animals that have been on the inside.
And just like that, we had a beautiful relationship develop between two nonprofit organizations in the Bismarck-Mandan area that just wanted the best for animals in our community. We have continued to use the Neuter Scooter for sterilization and vaccination efforts on animals in our care, with Doc. Henderson’s expertise. We have also been able to explore a sterilization and vaccination project at a reduced rate for pet owners that would not be able to afford it otherwise.
Lee, you may think your role in this organization is minimal, but to us and the community of Bismarck-Mandan, it is huge. With your constant generosity, the mission statements behind both of the organizations continue to be reached. Thank you a million times over from those of us at Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue.
