DISCARDED, BUT NOT DEFEATED

 

We don’t remember where we came from. We do remember the fear, the hunger, and the cold earth beneath us. Some of us were left in a field—so many of us, too many to count. We were miserable, our little bodies weak, our bellies empty, with sickness spreading among us.
