WORKING CAT PROGRAM

We are announcing a program called the “Working Cat Program”.  These programs are available in rescues across the nation and allow for the placement of spayed and neutered cats that likely would be euthanized otherwise.  By placing “fixed” cats this prevents unwanted litters of kittens that may suffer succumbing to illness, predators and the elements. When implemented correctly the chances of the cats remaining at the location of placement is much more successful.

Working cats can be:

• Cats who may be social but prefer to limit their interactions with people;
• Cats who are shy or fearful of people and prefer the company of other cats;
• Cats whose litter box habits are not consistent enough to be inside-only cats;
• Cats develop strong bonds with other cats-which is why we recommend placing two or more cats together, and;
• Working cats may be placed in barns, outbuildings, stables or shops.

A successful Working Cat Program includes providing a secure place to keep the cats for the first 2-3 weeks while they acclimate to your barn, tack room, or outbuilding. This can be a large crate or secure indoor enclosure. The cats become accustomed to the sounds, as well as their caretakers, and begin to associate that this is where they can count on to be fed. And although cats are natural hunters and will provide natural rodent control, they must have quality food and fresh water available. Safe shelter from predators and the environment-such as warmth in the winter and shade in the summer-is also required for the program.

Working Cats are:

Where are they placed:

• Barn
• outbuilding
• stable

What WE Provide:

• Spayed/Neutered, Vaccinated cat. (we do not adopt kittens in this program as they fall prey too easily)
• Instructions on how to successfully acclimate them to their new home.

What YOU Provide:

• Shelter in a barn, outbuilding, stable, or shop
• Ability to stay safe from predators
• Ability to keep warm in the winter months, cool in the summer
• Daily food and water (cats are natural born hunters and will continue to be good rodent control, however that is not enough to sustain a good diet)
• Ability to provide veterinary care, as needed
• A secure placed to keep them for the first 2 weeks while they acclimate to your barn (this can be a tack room, large crate or any secure indoor enclosure). We can assist in providing a crate.
